A Morning to Remember

Posted by pcburke in Miscellaneous

Yesterday morning seemed like just another run-of-the-mill morning, but little did I know that something quite peculiar had occured. My wife and I had moved to Fort Lauderdale about a month ago for my job and we found ourselves a nice apartment in a good area of town. Crime was one of the things that we had never thought would occur in our quiet neighborhood.

I woke up, showered, ate, dressed, and walked out to my car for another day at the office. But when I got to where my car should’ve been parked, it was no longer there. Odd. I walked over to the leasing office and spoke with a maintenence worker regarding the fact that my car was nowhere to be found and he suggested I call the police. Half an hour later, the Broward County Sherrif showed up at our door and I told him the story. Apparently Acura Integras are considered “hot items” for car thieves in this area.

Soon after he had filed the police report and left, I phoned my insurance company and answered questions for them. They set me up with a rental car until a mandatory two week waiting period is complete. If my car does not happen to be recovered during that two week timeframe, they will write me a check for the value of the car minus a $500 deductible. I’ve been speaking with a family friend about a car that they are wanting to sell, but am sad to have to start making payments on another car. I had owned the Acura for 6 years and had not been making payments on it anymore for nearly 2. Easy come, easy go, I’m afraid. Whatever I decide for a new vehicle (assuming my Acura is not recovered), I will opt for a car alarm to be installed. I might even look into some sort of tracking device to be installed, as well, to aide in the tracking down of my new vehicle if it ends up getting stolen, too.
Until then… Welcome to Florida… Ungh.
