A Morning to Remember (Part 2)

Posted by pcburke in Miscellaneous

Nearly two weeks have flown by since I last saw my car and I thought it would never be recovered. Many of my colleagues and I agreed that in this amount of time my car had surely been stripped down and boxed up for parts. Apparently such behavior is commonplace in Southern Florida seeing as how a facility here was shut down recently that was selling car parts to customers all around the nation. These car parts were discovered to belong to automobiles that had been stolen.

At any rate, the Broward County Sherrif’s office called me this morning and informed me that my car had been “recovered” and that it had been delivered to a nearby towing facility. The car was reported to be in “poor” condition. No other description regarding the current condition of the car was given to me at the time. Little did I know that their definition of the word “poor” differed greatly than my own.

My manager and I drove to the towing facility minutes after the call to check out the damage. Here is what we saw: Acura Recovered - Photo Gallery Link. As you can see, the engine, transmission, stereo, and spare tire were removed from the vehicle leaving it a mere shell of its former self. One has to wonder why anyone would go to so much trouble of stealing a vehicle to remove parts that were quite old. The transmission had almost 150,000 miles on it, so I guess the joke’s on them.

After speaking with my insurance agent, a claims adjuster had been dispatched to survey the damage and give me final word about what kind of reimbursement I can expect from the insurance company. I cannot imagine that they will pay to have a new engine and transmission installed seeing as how my car was not worth that kind of money.

More word as it comes in.
